Project Overview

Boston, MA – Bancroft-Dixwell Apartments project in Roxbury and Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, reflects a commitment to modernizing affordable housing while preserving the historic character of the buildings. Sustainable Engineering Solutions (SES) played a critical role in the renovation, providing commissioning services to enhance system efficiency and performance across eight buildings, six of which are considered historic. The project included 45 units at the Bancroft Apartments and 33 units at the Dixwell Apartments, offering two-, three-, and four-bedroom configurations.

SES’s commissioning scope focused on newly installed mechanical systems, including boilers, domestic water heaters, associated pumps, and fin tube radiation. SES ensured that these systems were optimized for energy efficiency and reliability, addressing the project’s goal of replacing outdated equipment with modern solutions to improve tenant comfort and operational performance.

When SES assumed responsibility for third-party verification and testing after the previous provider was unable to fulfill its role, the team delivered consistent communication, detailed follow-up, and expert advice to achieve a successful closeout. This proactive approach ensured that all systems met performance expectations, supporting Urban Edge’s mission to maintain high-quality affordable housing.
