From Survey to Implementation

Retro-Commissioning (RCx) or Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx) is a systematic process applied to existing buildings that have never been commissioned, to ensure that their systems perform interactively, efficiently and can be maintained according to the facility’s needs.  It can include multiple steps such as planning, assessing, investigating, analyzing, improving and optimizing a buildings systems and assemblies.  The process can be customized based on specific needs or to target specific systems.

RCx Benefits:

  • Reduce annual energy costs and consumption

  • Improve building HVAC system performance

  • Improve occupant thermal comfort

  • Improve indoor air quality

  • Increase equipment life

  • Improve O&M practices

  • Reduce carbon footprint

RCx Opportunities Include:

  • Control System Optimization

  • System Retrofits and Upgrades

  • Re-Balancing of Air and Water Systems

  • Monitoring-Based Analytics

SES provides RCx services for utility incentive programs or as stand-alone projects.  SES has been an approved RCx provider with the local utility since the initial pilot program and has delivered numerous successful projects. The average simple payback of our projects has been 4.3 years and with utility incentives, has been reduced to 2.3 years! Click here to access Eversource’s RCx program application.
