Project Overview

Providence, RI – SES provided commissioning services for the renovation and expansion of William D’Abate Elementary School in Providence, Rhode Island. The project included a complete gut renovation of the existing school and a 30,000-square-foot addition, creating collaborative, open-plan learning environments aligned with Rhode Island’s educational goals. The project included extensive upgrades to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and envelope systems.

Commissioned systems included packaged rooftop units, variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems, energy recovery ventilators, fan coil units, electric radiant ceiling panels, and domestic hot water systems. SES also verified interior lighting controls, low-flow plumbing fixtures, building envelope components, and direct digital controls (DDC) through extensive functional performance testing and calibration.

The project followed the Northeast Collaborative for High Performance Schools (NE-CHPS) guidelines as part of the Rhode Island Department of Education’s sustainability goals, with a strong focus on optimizing building performance, ensuring occupant comfort, and supporting energy-efficient operations in a modernized facility.
