Air Leakage Site Detection in Building Envelopes and Air Barrier Systems

This test standard describes seven methods for assessing the air barrier of a building.  SES offers the “Chamber Depressurization in Conjunction with Leak Detection Liquid” or the Bubble Test Method.  The other six methods require multiple people, are much more costly, or are difficult to apply to normal construction schedules.

This method consists of applying a leak detection liquid, depressurizing the chamber covering the area, and looking for bubbles. This is ideal for identifying air leakage on a mock-up of a building at the earliest stage possible. It can be used on roof seams, rainscreen mounting hardware on AVB systems, seams on sheet applied systems, and quality control for fluid applied systems.
